Aviators

I'm not even going to to begin to rant about who should and shouldn't wear these, but this summer aviators are probably the hottest sun glasses to wear. The only problem are those who choose wear them anyhow? Anyhow you ask? As in it doesn't suit the shape of your face, frames are wrong, colours of frames etc. They're like jeans they have to fit right and look right if not you look silly.

I decided to become a fan of them on Facebook and look at photos people posted and pin point what I didn't like.

These are really nice but the lenses are too big for her face and although the whole point of aviators are to hide a fraction of your cheek bones, these cover way too much, She looks like a fly. Smaller lenses please !

Now these are an example of how to look great in them the colour of her lenses match her outfit. I love the silver frames too. it doesn't hide too much of her face, but just enough.

These aviators look great but for a female, they re too small for his face, so it looks slightly weird.

These are probably the ugliest aviators Ive ever seen. I don't like the fact that both the lenses and frames are black and have a weird shape. NEXT.

My name's Joanne Flovella & this is my first time posting on the R.I.S.E. =) I'm currently a film student in Miami with dreams of becoming a celebrated director/actress/writer. I adore everything about film & what goes into making one; I'm also super passionate about the art of music & music videos. Anyhoo on to my first post ---> these are films that I feel everyone should see at least once:

1994: stars Natalie Portman (my favorite actress) in her first movie and Jean Reno in this dark but gorgeous film by Luc Besson. One of my favorite movie, it will leave you breathless & wanting more.

2004: Stars Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman. It's a sexy, intriguing, grown-up drama. You don't get a lot of that nowadays.

1982: Features Richard Gere in his younger days. I saw this in a class last year. Many of my classmates did not like it but I quite enjoyed it. I highly recommend it if you like coming-of-age stories.

1974: This is one of the reasons I will always love Mel Brooks! It's a horror/comedy spoof done right.

2009: A phenomenal science fiction film for all those sci-fi buffs out there like myself. Very poignant.

2002: DO NOT let the cheesy poster fool you: this movie is a thrilling & scary ride from start to finish, one of those keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat films.

2005: From Neil Marshall, the same director that did Dog Soldiers. Another one of my favorite films. A top-notch psychological horror film; this is where women are the ones doing the butt-kicking =)

And last but certainly not least:

2002: Hands down my favorite movie of all time. Nominated for 4 Oscars but didn't even win one, which I find stunning. This is THE film that pushed my dream of being an actress & director over the top. I remember thinking about this movie 3 or 4 days after I watch it. It's rare that a movie does that to me. It's got elements of dark comedy, tragedy, hope....... I tell everyone I know to watch this film. Watch this movie!!!

There are many more movies I want to post about but I'd go on forever so I think for now this is enough lol.

Denim MUST haves this spring/summer

It could be a denim biker jacket, to a blouse or a skirt or even a shirt. Either way one of these need to be in your wardrobe. It doesn't even have to be new. When i felt the return of "All denim everything" this season I rushed to my mothers room to see if she had any throwback denim clothes and she did. Vintage? I suppose, as long as it looks good.

This was similar to what I found in my mums wardrobe but a bit darker, like Alexa Chung's above.
Dorothy Perkins £28

This was purchased by myself a month ago. I bought it for
£25 from New Look a little less on my student discount card, Looks great with pretty much anything, especially a long baggy plaid shirt.

These are both from TopShop and are for those who are petite. Keyword there PETITE. So please, if you have hips like mine keep out!

Denim jeans you can make yourself! The pair of jeans can easily be made using a blade this is to make the torn holes. Other pieces of old denim material should also be used to make a more of "DIY" look. Stitch them on different parts of the legs using either using a machine if you have one or neatly sew it on using dark brown or black thread. These consists of different shades of blue embedded on to these pair of jeans, so go crazy!

Denim cut offs are also something which you can do yourself, so go dig out old pair of jeans you don't wear anymore and create something new. Simply get a pair of scissors and a marker to measure how short you want it. After you've cut it to suit you fold the bottom by 2cm. Turn it inside out and iron it so the crease stays. If you don't want to have it folded up, grab a blade and and carefully as you can cut around so it has more of a stringy denim look.

Rethink Type

While reviewing my work, my teacher told me that I need to rethink my type. Aparrently, my type(fonts) choices were not thought out all the way. My line breaks and type treatment also needed some work as well. I'm going to try to to take a indepth look into my type design. I'm looking at Veer.com, Typography.com, and youworkforthem.com. As designers, sometimes we under estimate the power of type. But essentially its the part of your work that communicates directly to your viewer most.So ladies and gentleman whatever you do dont be like me, RETHINK TYPE!

Been Away Studying

I really has been a lot of studying...I just don't like to say how much sleep I have really lost.

Well, I have been offline for quite some time. It is all because I have been studying and trying to learn more about Compositing and Photography (light and color).
These are some of the resources I have studying up on:

Oh yeah and the Stuff on TheFoundry website about Nuke and using it for color correction and compositing of course.

I have also been doing some Figure Drawing, there was a workshop today.

FieldTrip to kid robot....

Today My class went on a field trip to kid robot so we can study the ins and out of package design and product design.Apparently a product's packaging makes up 50% of a costumers experience with the design and the cost of the product depends on its quantity and and how intricate the packaging of the product is. All in all I got to Talk w/ some of the employees at kidrobot whose names were Aisha, Fi, and Eric.....Real cool people who informed us on the designer toy scene.

We are having an Art show this Saturday in the wynwood district. The theme of the art is music so I designed a poster and I designed a t-shirt to go with my Poster! I think Trooper would really like this one lol hehe it is of the late great Doo-wop Singer Frankie Lymon. Although he died young, Frankie Lymon's influence on music was great. Without his contribution we wouldn't have the late great Michael Jackson. In fact, Barry Gordy(founder of Motown Records) modeled the Jackson 5's sound (and many other motown artists) of of Frankie Lymon & the Teenager's sound. I wanted my shirt to recognize such an influential force in music.

I just got my camera and I must say i'm EXtremely Excited! Because once you have a camera you can do SO much and Record so much visual language in such a blink of an Eye check some of them out it's just me testing it out! As a Graphic designer It is imperative that you have a camera because it opens new doors to job opportunities.(I.E. photographer)

A Bunch of New Stuff

Alright, so it has been a few days since my last post and believe me I have been hard at work.
My Personal Pipeline Project has slowed down a bit, because of the work from other classes. But, I have still been gathering as many resources and setting in line material to help me learn through the process. And I will be furthering the Concept Art work within the next few days, as well as get back to utilizing my R&D resources.
Next up, I have been kept rather busy lately with my Animation Art test. At FullSail I have to prove my worth as an Animator before moving on. So sooner rather than later I took it. I turned it in Wednesday morning and I have gotten a great critique from Sam Ewing since than. And it has definitely made me more confident in what the results will be.
And just a few more things, I have been trying to get back into fine arts and photography. With fine arts it has been a focus of watercolor and anatomy studies, but to stay on track I have kept the anatomy studies to that of gesture drawings which relates a lot closer to animation. And in photography I have been experimenting with counterbalancing Shutter Speed and Aperture to achieve a stylized lighting effect in my shots. I love to have a lot of contrast, rich colors and deep shadows.

Hows it Kid?

Well, I am "trooper" Kaliq's comrade. And I figure I should follow up with his introduction by sharing a quip about myself and posting about a new project.

My name is Robert Quintana, "trooper", and I am studying Computer Animation at FullSail University. I am an aspiring animator and I am working very hard to be an accomplished and experienced digital artist. But more importantly I am trying to improve my quality of life through the exploration of art and the different mediums I see the most potential in for expression and enlightenment. The awareness of either life or the introspective of self. So to keep this short I will come back to this point later. For now I will close with this:

The idea is for me to go through an entire production pipeline by myself. This way I can teach myself about the different aspects of a production of a feature ( for this instance, it is just the creation of a character and a fulfillment of an idea) or a short. I will keep this short and get right to it than.

The first aspect of any production is an idea, than of course a concept (concept art), and than R&D ( research and development). Currently I am tackling Concept Art as well as R&D.
So please check it out and tell me what you think.
I was trying to decide what character I should create for this project, and it was tough. But, than I decided to use this surreal expression of myself that I drew for fun. Now for now it is not decided that this will be the subject or the final look. So bare with me for work in progress posts.

And as for R&D I have been gathering all the material and resources I can on pipeline production for different packages like Zbrush (http://www.pixologic.com/home.php) which is a digital modeling/sculpting software and Softimage for rigging and animation.

Right now I am diligently taking notes on a Masterclass lecture on full Zbrush character development.

Hello internet land my name is Kaliq a.k.a Skillful _k. I want to start out by saying this is a new blog me and my friend Rob "Troop" Quintana have started. We are individuals who are now studying in different fields of art. I study Graphic Design and he studies Computer Animation. In spending one year in college I have learned a great deal. What I've learned is that creativity is not just an internal condition, but it is also an external one. On many occasions I have been able to create beautiful work and I was not even remotely inspired by looking at your "usual" art. To my surprise, my inspiration would come from the most unlikliest places: Refrigerator magnets, a word out of a magazine, the toppings of my favorite pizza, and even a person!(By the way, pinapples are really inspiring.) I'm sure uncommon inspiration does not just apply to me, but to you aswell. I would like to know what inspirational "treasure" you find that peeks your interest. Also, Troop and I want to share our "treasures" with you and inturn we enlighten eachother's lives, enlightening all parties involved. "Thus, we are Renaissance Individuals Seeking Enlightenment Always...."
